A motor yacht at anchor on the French Riviera

BUYER’S GUIDE · MOORING & MARINAS

Mooring & Marinas

Your yacht’s home port deserves its own shortlist.

Choose your base. Shape your season.

Consider travel from home, yacht dimensions, marina services and preferred cruising grounds before committing to a purchase. A berth should fit the way you will use your yacht.

01

Choose the coastline you will use.

Cannes suits plans around the Lérins Islands; Antibes and Golfe-Juan offer a central Riviera location. Nice and the coast towards Monaco suit an eastern focus, while Saint-Tropez offers a western base. Compare shore access and travel time.

02

Match exact yacht dimensions.

Give the harbour office overall length, beam, draft and technical needs. Check manoeuvring space, depth, shore power and restrictions. A berth described by length alone may not fit your yacht.

03

Understand the written agreement.

Ask about visitor, seasonal and annual stays, waiting lists and a complete quote. Check utilities, service charges, deposits, renewal and cancellation terms. Do not assume a seller’s berth transfers with the yacht; confirm rights directly with the port and a legal adviser.

04

Plan services and alternatives.

Consider security, maintenance access, lifting, provisioning and crew needs. Check current local anchoring restrictions, including protected seagrass areas. Weather and demand can change plans, so confirm availability and keep alternative ports in mind.

BEFORE YOU COMMIT

Your conversation
checklist.

  • Does the berth fit the yacht’s exact dimensions and technical needs?
  • Is availability confirmed in writing for my dates?
  • What is included in the quote and charged separately?
  • Are renewal, cancellation and transfer conditions clear?
  • Which services and alternative ports will I need?
